Why choose our school?

Mackay Northern Beaches State High School is located 10km from the centre of Mackay in the growing Northern Beaches area of Mackay. The school opened its doors in January 2013 with Year 7 and 8 students. Each year the school continued to grow, as subsequent year levels were added. In 2017, the school reached maturity, as our foundation Year 8’s became the inaugural Year 12 cohort.

The school boasts 21st century facilities second to none. Our facilities provide a world-class learning environment for students combined with the very latest state-of-the-art technology embedded across the curriculum. The development of the 12 million dollar performing arts complex will provide state of the art learning and performance spaces, unique to Mackay schools.

Our curriculum takes into account contemporary developments in learning and is focused on the need for students to create possibilities for themselves within a broad national and international context. We are also well advanced in developing our programs reflective of the new Senior Assessment and Tertiary Entrance (SATE) system being introduced in Year 11 and 12 across Queensland from 2019.

We have developed a culture and strong emphasis on focused learning, high expectations and celebrating success, to ensure all students are reaching and surpassing their academic potential.

Mackay Northern Beaches SHS features a positive and engaging learning environment in which every young learner develops a sense of belonging and is inspired to shape their preferred future. You are invited to visit our wonderful school to see and feel what it is like to be truly Striving for Excellence.
